Unravel the possibilities of ceramic in the world of hospitality

2024.07.28

Jingdezhen, located in southeastern China, is renowned for its rich mineral resources and exquisite porcelain craftsmanship, earning the title of "Porcelain Capital." With a ceramic history spanning over 1,700 years, Jingdezhen has become a sacred place for ceramic art, attracting numerous artisans and artists who continuously explore and innovate in the field of ceramics.

In this land full of historical and artistic atmosphere, under the guidance of intangible cultural heritage inheritor Mr. Ma Jiaping, Zhengyin Art has established its first ceramic research and development studio. Our work focuses on in-depth research and breakthroughs in ceramic glazes, shapes, and firing techniques. Through these experimental studies, we not only ensure the smooth execution of ceramic projects but also solve various technical problems to meet clients' high standards.

Each project comes with unique design requirements, and many interior designers have high expectations for ceramic works. This forces us to constantly accumulate and master more ceramic production experience to meet project needs.

Nevertheless, we encounter numerous challenges. For instance, during the creation of ceramic art decoration walls for Conrad Hotel, the project not only required a crackle glaze effect on the ceramic surface after firing but also needed the bricks to be connected by metal pipes for installation. Therefore, the precise alignment of brick holes (with a tolerance of less than 3 millimeters) was crucial. Additionally, during modeling, we carefully calculated the load-bearing capacity to ensure safe installation and smooth completion.

Another notable project was the creation of a 9-meter-high ceramic installation symbolizing a dragon's shadow for Xi'an Le Méridien Hotel. Despite its seemingly simple appearance, the challenge lay in ensuring the design scheme's integrity while mastering the firing process of the ceramic panels. We had to ensure a high success rate of fired panels and consider the fluidity changes of the kiln glaze to guarantee the final installation matched the design.

Recently, we collaborated with SM Studio and GZ Art Co. to design a series of ceramic artworks for the Qingdao Diaoyutai Hotel project, inspired by traditional Chinese paper-cutting. These artworks are prominently displayed in the hotel elevator corridors. Through meticulous design and lighting, the three-dimensional ceramic pieces create a projection-like effect, adding more layers to the visual experience.

Ceramics is an ever-evolving art form, praised for its texture and uniqueness. We believe that incorporating ceramic works into interior decoration and the construction industry not only enhances aesthetics but also promotes sustainable development through its durability and environmental friendliness. Looking to the future, the Zhengyin Art team will continue to explore and innovate with this versatile material, discovering new ways to utilize its beauty and functionality in design. We also extend an invitation to people from all walks of life to visit Zhengyin Art's studio in the "Porcelain Capital" to discuss ceramic experiences together.
